About Us
The Namwianga Mission was established in 1932 in Kalomo, Zambia under the Churches of Christ with the purpose of teaching the Bible and promoting Christianity. Namwianga Mission is run by Zambia Mission incorporated in Abilene, Texas. The mission site contains a basic (elementary) and a secondary school. The mission also supports several other basic and secondary Schools. Namwianga also contains George Benson Christian College, which trains secondary teachers in various areas of education, and many graduates go on to plant churches around Zambia. Other entities at Namwianga Mission include:
Since 1980, there has been more than a 500 percent increase in the number of churches established in Zambia with an estimated attendance of over 80,000 people. Namwianga Mission has played a vital role in this growth.
The average Zambian child’s education lasts just seven years, and the Zambian government spends only 1.1% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on education. Since its beginning, Namwianga Mission has been a center for education, with Namwianga Christian Secondary School, Namwianga School of Nursing, George Benson Christian College of Education, and six other schools under its influence. The U.S. Sponsorship Program provides funding for high school and college students who come from families that cannot afford to pay the required tuition and costs.

The Evangelism and Spiritual Growth department traces its roots to the early 1970s at Namwianga Christian Secondary School where it was initially birthed as the Young Christian Movement (YCM).
Namwianga Mission's Haven helps vulnerable children survive and thrive. Children are placed in our care due to a family tragedy, most often the death of their mothers. We work with the local social welfare office to provide the best possible situation for each child
The first line of defense for babies who have lost a mother is the Milk Program. Namwianga supplies formula to more than 50 children who have families who are able to take care of them but need help providing formula.
Thousands of smart and capable Christian young people in Zambia never get a high school diploma. The costs of tuition, fees and boarding are too much for families living at or near the poverty level. And for many of those who do finish high school, college is out of the question. It’s just too expensive when families are concerned with providing the basics of food, shelter, and clothing.
Without an education, young adults have few options for breaking the cycle of poverty. Without educated leaders for the future, Zambia suffers, and the church suffers.
Zambia’s Southern Province suffered a devastating drought in 2018-2019. The area recorded the lowest seasonal rainfall since 1981. Most rural families rely on maize crops for food and as a source of cash. The drought destroyed the crops and also dried up existing surface water sources. Residents survived on roots and wild tree fruits—or they suffered from hunger. In communities without water wells, villagers had to travel farther and farther to find water. The water was often collected from polluted streams and ponds that animals also used.
